$100 Grocery Challenge

January has come and gone, so let's see if we made our $100 grocery challenge this month... (I'm a little behind...)

BUSTED!!

Final shopping total - $507.39
OOP - $128.07
Saved - $368.51 (about 73%)

January 2010:

Final shopping total - $1072.24
OOP - $245.44
Saved - $826.80 (about 78%)

Also, remember I am now doing a Walgreens/Rite Aid challenge, basically just wanting to make enough money throughout the month doing miscellaneous things to make up for any purchases I make at drug stores.

In January, I spent $142.21.

I made $161.90 through Ebay.
I made $10.00 through Swagbucks.
I made $10 working on Amazon Mturk (worked 9 days in January).
I made $145.06 in checks from rebates, mystery shopping and online surveys.

So technically, I didn't pay anything for any of my drug store purchases! AND made up for the $28.07 I overspent on groceries. :)

I also added to my savings spreadsheet (I need to blog about that some time) some items I purchased in January that were miscellaneous items so that I know how much is "normal" or a good price to pay for them. This included thread and bobbins for my sewing machine.

We spent $46.34 eating out which is more than I expected. We seemed to eat out a lot in January.

I spent $105 just on gas. Yowza!!

Those are just some random things I was keeping track of this month! When I have more time I will try to show you my system of how I keep up with all this. Basically... save receipts!

How did you do in January!

I think you did great. I need to get with you on those surveys and maybe some mystery shopping in my area. Ebay is doing well. Made $231.00, just on Tuesday night, and my items are doing great this week as well.

I will send you an email as soon as I can collect my thoughts.

I know I will never live up to you with ebay stuff! I have time to list usually about 15 items all month. I wish I could make as much as you but I just can't do that and everything else! Maybe someday :)

One is 2011, one is 2010. A few months ago I started putting my totals from a year ago, just to compare. Sometimes I did much better the year before, sometimes I did much worse! It's just interesting to me to see them side by side.
